I am PISSED OFF.
I am so angry I could slaughter someone.
I could bite off a bat’s head. I could punch a wall. I could throw a television out a window.
Someone has been making my sister feel bad about herself.
One: this is not OK to do to anyone and two: DO NOT DO IT TO MY SISTER.
In a photo posted online today, some people who don’t know my sister made judgemental and nasty comments about her.
My sister is a beauty. She has long dark thick hair and kind brown eyes.
She has a smile that could light up a concert hall, those beautiful legs I have added to my Body Wishlist from all her years of dance, she’s healthy and she’s funny and so very loved.
Her boyfriend looks at her as though she is the sun and the moon, he worships her. My brother treasures her and protects her and would sacrifice his own life for her.
I would do anything to take away the pain she is feeling right now because someone felt the need to draw attention to what they saw as an imperfection.
The body of a healthy, happy young woman, especially when photographed and posted on a public forum, should be celebrated as a miracle.
Too many of our young women suffer the ideals placed upon them indirectly. Must we also tolerate this same nastiness from each other directly?
When you diminish someone’s self esteem, how do you benefit?
When you question how someone looks, do you understand that your criticism is completely unnecessary?
Would you ask someone to their face why they look a certain way?
Would me commenting that you make me think of something unpleasant make you feel different about yourself?
I am enraged and I am disappointed.
The Internet is full of horrible news and sadness and hatred.
Why would you add to it by commenting on someone’s looks?
Let us band together and fight against the bullies who try to hurt us with their words.
And to them I say: stay the fuck away from my
sister.
